FabFitFun + $10 off!!!

I liked the winter FabFitFun box a lot, and I LOVE the Spring one!!! When you go off sheer value these boxes blow most competitors out of the water, and the products are usually all ones that you actually want to use and keep!

FabFitFun is a quarterly lifestyle subscription box.  They include a fitness related item, beauty products, accessories, gift cards, the list goes on.

The price is $49 / quarter  Save $10 by following link: FabFitFun

Here is the spring box in all it’s glory.

This box was packed with neat stuff and a broad range which I enjoyed.  I also really enjoy PopSugar but in this last box there were some sort of random products and two jewelry items which I felt kind of “meh” about.  FabFitFun is exceptionally good with it comes to variety and quality.

This box contained:

  • Bodipure Keratin Gloves & Socks ($10)
  • $30 for Sterling Forever ($30)
  • $25 for 31 Bits ($25)
  • 18k Gold plated Jook and Nona necklace ($65)
  • Merrithrew mat strap ($15)
  • Hello Legs shower lotion meets shaving cream (Not sure? Guess $8 No info on internet)
  • ISH cosmetics contour palette (brand new exclusive to FabFitFun $32)
  • Jus D’Amour bath bomb trinity ($15)
  • Makers Kit Kitchen Herb Garden ($24)
  • Marrakesh Argan & Hemp Oil Treatment (about $11 on Amazon if you have prime)

Grand Total Value: Approx. $235
I think that’s a fantastic box for the price!! Make sure to follow link for $10 if you choose to subscribe!!!

I already planted my seeds and watered them in my new little Herb Garden haha 🙂

The Bookish Box

The Bookish Box by Appraising Pages is a monthly box which includes an appraising pages t-shirt and other bookish stuff (bookmarks, notebooks, totes, candles, etc) based on a monthly theme. March’s theme was debut novels.  Admittedly, I had no idea what books the items were based on because I hadn’t read of heard of them, but the items are cute nonetheless.  If you have read these debut novels then you would appreciate it all the more.

The Bookish Box is $29.99/mo. or cheaper if you buy a longer subscription.  Occasionally they offer special limited edition boxes.  In the past there has been a “Supernatural” themed box, and coming up this April there will be an “Outlander” box.  I happen to LOVE Outlander, and am signed up for that one.

Check out The Bookish Box !!!

Check out last month’s box here: February Bookish Box

The March Box included a t-shirt, a pillow cover, a booklet of post-its, LulaBelle &Co. earrings, and a bath bomb!

March BookCase.Club

Book Case Club

BookCase.Club is a monthly book subscription offering 6 different genres.  Each month you receive 2 books, at least one of which is hardcover.  You can switch your genre whenever you want.  $9.99/mo. or less with longer subscription plus $5 shipping.  It works out to $7.50 or less per book. Amazing value!.  Currently I get the Thrill Seeker Box, but am going to switch to Strange Worlds for April! I really love this subscription and its very reasonably priced! 🙂

Hello Fresh + $40 off

Hello Fresh is a weekly fresh food delivery box.
-Every week there are numerous recipes to choose from and when you choose which ones and how many you want, they ship you the fresh food, with cold packs, right to your front door.
-Everything is individually packaged and all the ingredients are pre-measured.

The serving sizes are more generous than I expected and I was very impressed with the variety of recipes and their nutritional value. I made all the two serving meals into three servings and portions were as seen in pictures below on large full-sized dinner plates! Definitely doable.

-I also love that everything comes pre-measured, because although it may be cheaper to buy a lot of stuff per unit at the store, often times I end up wasting a lot of it because I have a lot left of one thing, and run out of another.  This eliminates that problem.

-The recipes come on really nice paper in a little magazine-like booklet that you could definitely keep to repeat the recipes.  The instructions are really easy to follow and have pictures, so even if you aren’t very comfortable in the kitchen, it will be a breeze!!!

Check out Hello Fresh and Use code: 5T7CFX for $40 your first order!!!

Boxes run about $8.75 – $9.90 per person per meal. (or $7.66 if you make it work for three people like I do!)
They have classic boxes for omnivores, vegetarian boxes, and larger family boxes if you are feeding a larger number of people.

The first meal from our box I cooked was the Mahi Mahi Piccata.
I don’t even like fish very much, and only have it periodically, but this was one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten, and definitely the best fish one! It really opens your eyes to recipes you might not try otherwise.  Bravo!

The Losers

The following are boxes I tried but decided not to continue with.

I know a lot of you love Ipsy, and I love most of the products that I see they offered in a given month, for some reason I never get any of those.  It literally felt like they looked at my beauty profile and gave me every product I wouldn’t like.  I gave them 3 months with no improvement, so I gave up.  The bags are cute but a bit too small for my everyday use, so I’m giving them a break for a while.  I might sign up again in the future!

In all fairness, they are just getting started and will probably improve over time, but I felt like the quality was lacking in the products.  I would rather have less stuff but higher quality.  The shirt wasn’t soft, the necklace had a weird chemical smell, and even though I do like the crossbody bag, it’s poor quality.  This stuff is even with or less than the quality you would get at Forever21.  I didn’t feel like it was right for me.

Pet Treater
This box had a ton of stuff in it for the price, I’ll give it that.  What I didn’t like about it was that I didn’t see us using most of the stuff, or wasn’t happy with the quality.  Bjorn didn’t like the homemade treats.  I didn’t like that all the hair easily fell out of the giant blue made in China monster toy.  The blanket was functional but not for us… you get the idea.  Lots of value, but only if you are into the products.

These are boxes I like but not sure if I will continue or not, or I plan on getting sporadically.

Covet Crate
$84.95 / month for the Lady Boss Box
$44.95 for the Girl Boss Box
Use code SUBADDICTION25 for 25% off your first box
The reason I’m undecided on this one is the price.  I got the January Girl Boss box and then signed up for March’s Lady Boss Box but I’m skipping April.  This is a bit much for me to do every month on top of all the other boxes, but is definitely one I think I’ll consider on a periodic basis.  The stuff is very high quality and fits a monthly theme.  The boxes sell out way ahead of time, so make sure to sign up early.
Covet Crate January

$10 monthly or $110 yearly
Birchbox is turning into Ipsy for me.  They just don’t quite get me right.  I know it’s impossible to give everyone what they want, but I would expect them to be more accurate based on the profiles we fill out.  For example both my February and March boxes contain perfume samples by the same exact brand and both have Coola sunscreens in them.  Not only do I think you shouldn’t get repeat products, but I specifically gave these two products low ratings in my February box because I didn’t like them! haha This hasn’t been the theme in the past, but I don’t want this to happen again.
feb birchbox
march Birchbox

$21 /month
I do love some of the Boxycharm boxes, I just wasn’t keen on the February one, or the March spoilers.  They generally have an incredible value for the $21/month they cost, but I hope these two boxes aren’t an indication of their future ones.  I’ll keep them for now, as they do offer so much value!

The Bookish Box
$29.99 / month or less with longer subscription
I really like these boxes and I think they are perfect if you like bookish stuff.  My problem is that I’m simultaneously a shopaholic and a minimalist.  I want to get all the stuff, but I don’t want to keep it in my house, and if I do it has to be perfectly organized out of sight in its designated spot lol.  Case in point: I love this stuff but have too much anxiety trying to find homes for it around my home without it getting too busy. Refer to previous post to see more about this box and a coupon code.

Pearlesque Box
$39.99 /monthly
This is a box that I like a lot but don’t see myself getting every month.  It’s about $40 a month and gives natural, non-toxic, organic beauty products from different locations around the world.  Each month has a different brand and at least one full sized item.  I think I’ll only get this sporadically depending on the brand and products they are offering that month which they always tell you ahead of time.  I don’t go through enough products to warrant getting this every month.  I’d be overflowing.  I do really like this box though!!

BeautyFix by Dermstore
$24.95 / month
I think I love this one more than I actually love it, if that makes any sense.  The box is about $25 a month (enter your e-mail on their mailing list for 15% off).  It offers a super high value for the price.  But to explain what I meant by the first statement, I love it because it’s a high value with cool looking stuff, but at the end of the day I’m not sure I love or use all the products.  Some I do and love a lot, but I’m starting to question myself on some of them, and often the samples are for products that are too expensive for me to buy the full-size of, so I’m just confused and love it but maybe I shouldn’t. Lol. (hopefully that rant made some sort of sense).  You’ll have to check it out for yourself. You do get a discount if you buy any of the full-size versions though so that’s a plus!

Julep Maven
$24.99 / month
I’m not very dedicated in the nailpolish department.  I have many, but I don’t paint my nails very often because it seems like such a hassle.  Julep polishes last fairly long compared to any drug store brands and about the same as OPI.  I do really like their top coats. I can only speak on their face primer which I hated, but I haven’t tried any other beauty products by them so I’ll hang on to it for a while to see what I think.

Face Primer Review!

Over the last few weeks I tried these six primers in an effort to find the one that’s perfect (or almost perfect) for me! I never used to wear a primer because I had only tried one, and hated it, and assumed they all sucked haha.  Lo and behold! There are some good ones out there!

So which was my favorite?
Hands down, no question, contestant number 6:
Algenist Pore Corrector Anti-Aging Primer!!! 10/10
I’m definitely going to buy the full size! (Which is rare for me because I don’t like commitment hahaha)
1 oz. on Amazon is $34 or $29 with prime subscribe and save (way cheaper than sephora or ulta etc.)
Algenist Pore Corrector Anti-Aging Primer

This primer made my pores the least visible and made my skin the smoothest.  It also lasted all day which isn’t easy because my skin is pretty oily.  I also liked that it didn’t clog my pores like some of the others did.  Not to mention, it smells the best out of all them too, which is a big win in my book.  Good job, Algenist.

1st Runner Up 9/10
Benefit Porefessional
0.75oz. is $31 (slightly more expensive per ounce than Algenist)
Benefit Porefessional
IMG_3394I did really like this one and if it weren’t for the great smell the Algenist one has, I’d say this one is as good…almost.  It’s slightly thicker than the Algenist one, but works very well.  It also has a nice subtle tint to it and you can apply it on top of your makeup as the day goes on if you feel so inclined.

The rest of them…

Clinique Super Primer 7/10
Clinique SuperPrimer
1 oz. $27
I’m usually a Clinique junkie.  I use their foundation, face creams, serums, acne products, and eyeshadow, but this product let me down.  I think if you already have good skin, this would just smooth it out a bit and help your makeup last longer, but if you have visible pores and/or oily skin, this isn’t going to do the job. I was going to give it a lower rating, but I think it’s better than it worked for me as long as you have the right skin for it!

Smashbox Photo Finish 7/10
Smashbox Photo Finish
1 oz. $36
Everyone raves about this product but I didn’t think it was that amazing.  It rolls up a lot after you put it on.  I was trying to put my makeup on over top and it was peeling off or coming off in little rolled up balls out of any pores or wherever it had settled in.  I thought maybe it had gotten old but I also had a foil pack of it I tried and it did the same.  What stayed on my face worked decently.  I then had to worry all day that my face was going to look like it was peeling off. Maybe this is another one you need already smooth skin for.  I don’t qualify haha.

Lorac Porefection 6/10
Lorac Porefection Primer
1.7 oz. $32
I feel like this one is slightly thicker version of the Smashbox one and acts the same on my skin.  Doesn’t give me smooth lasting coverage.  Once again, maybe it’s just my skin type that it isn’t good for. Smells bad.

Julep Blank Canvas  2/10
Julep Blank Canvas
1 oz.  $28
This was my least favorite of the bunch as it could not have more closely replicated the scent of a public restroom (Admittedly my sense of smell would rival a bear’s hahaha so maybe it isn’t so bad to a normal nose).  It didn’t have the roll-up problem like Smashbox and Lorac have, however it was sort of sticky.  My makeup wouldn’t spread out or blend on it, it just stuck wherever it first made contact.  It also did NOT keep my skin matte.  After about 5 hours my forehead and nose were as shiny as they had ever been without a primer, maybe worse.  Yikes.  Maybe this works for people with a normal sense of smell and dry skin? But I was really really disappointed with this product especially because the reviews on Julep were so high!

I know there are SO many primers out there, these are the 6 that seemed most promising for my skin.  I’m very happy with the Algenist one.  Feel free to comment any primers you love so I can check those out too!! 🙂

Threads + Coupon Code

Threads is a new monthly t-shirt and accessory subscription box. For $20 a  month you get a shirt, 1-2 pieces of jewelry, and 1-2 accessories.

This bag had a black crossbody purse, a cute elephant necklace, a Nirvana T-shirt, and a (really ugly colored) beanie.

The Good: I really like the cross body bag and the chevron stitching, and I like elephants a lot, so it is a neat necklace to have.

The Bad: It is definitely worth the $20 but there were some things about it I didn’t like.
1. I signed up for a Women’s size Medium, and the shirt I received was a Large (However, this may have been intentional because it was small for a large).  The t-shirt also has a very tiny neck hole and isn’t very soft.
2. That God awful, cat diarrhea colored, curry colored(if you’re being kind), beanie.  I even edited the photo so the color isn’t nearly as bad in the picture as it was in real life.  Maybe on the right dark haired person this wouldn’t look bad, but I am a blonde with cool /neutral skin, and this is a BIG no no for me. lol

The Ugly:
THE BEANIE *cringes*

If you look past the hat, this is actually pretty cool bag and I’m sure that won’t be in all the future ones haha.  Threads definitely gives you a fair amount for $20.
